Celtics vs Heat Round 1

Add another tab to the Miami Heat and Boston Celtic bad blood file.  The Heat championship banner was raised, a snub happened, a “punk play”, and a 120-107 Heat victory all added fuel to the fire of this hated rivalry.

The Celtics usual vaunted defense could not contain the high-octane offense of the Miami Heat.  Dwayne Wade scored a game high 29 points, while LeBron James posted a double-double 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead Miami’s offensive explosion.  Former Celtic Ray Allen entered the game with 2:45 left to play in the first quarter.  Ray Allen shared a hug with Doc Rivers, shook the hands of his former Celtics’ staff, and patted the uninterested Garnett on the back.  Garnett didn’t even glance in his direction or acknowledge his former teammate and friend.  Drama aside Ray Allen poured in 19 points to help the Heat to the victory.

In the closing seconds of the game Dwayne Wade drove to the basket and Rajon Rondo grasped Wade around the neck.  Rondo was whistled for a flagrant foul and Wade after the game called it a “punk play.”

The Celtics defense continued to struggle carrying over from the preseason.  Rivers admitted it might take this team, full of newcomers, to find their way defensively, but assured that they will gel.  The one positive note was newcomer Leandro Barbosa’s spark off of the bench shooting 6-8, scoring a total of 16 points, 9 of which came in a span of 2 minutes.  The Celtics will be back at it Friday night in their home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks.  Round 2 versus the Heat will be January 27 in the Garden.
