Hair Supplies Trephin

Trephin’s focus on being a neighborhood salon may have let them fly under the radar when they first opened, but that has quickly changed. The Temple Place-located Trephin has received many stylist and salon-level awards and is earning recognition as one of the best salons nationwide. Elle magazine has named it one of the top 100 salons in the country two straight years. Let’s see why Boston (and beyond) is buzzing about Trephin.

Services

Trephin provides luxury men’s and women’s haircuts, neck and bang trims, extensions, blow outs, keratin treatments, and other moisturizing treatments. Color treatments include single process, single process with highlight, partial and full foil highlights, bayalage, double process, and glaze.

If you’ve ever had a stylist mess up your color, you know what a lifesaver corrective coloring services can be. Trephin offers these as well, and includes a consult to discuss the hair’s condition, color, and care.

They recently debuted a full suite of bridal services, which include a full consultation and a salon trial. In bridal services, stylists really get to know the bride’s personality and will work to sculpt a hairstyle that is really her. This is not prom-style hair. Trephin can capture both classic beauty and modern bridal hairstyles.

While Trephin clearly offers more than just the standard services, what they really excel at is client care. Stylists take the time to listen to client needs. To ensure that all clients have a relaxing salon experience, Trephin allots 60 to 90 minutes for each hair appointment. This way, stylists can perform a full client consult and really focus on who the client is and what she wants. The results are evident in the stream of positive attention from clients and press alike.

Staff

The staff at Trephin is knowledgeable and passionate about hair cuts, color, and care. You can sense it in their outgoing personalities and the way they ooze with excitement about major cuts and minor trims. Staff receive regular education in hair color and style trends from top quality salon brands like Kevin Murphy.

Trephin bills itself as a neighborhood salon. They once turned down the opportunity to expand into an adjacent building, because they felt it would alter the vibe. The focus here is clearly on giving high-quality cuts and making the client look and feel her best, not on packing the salon with bodies. Clients love this passion and tight-knit feel, which makes Trephin a real community asset in the heart of downtown Boston.

Ladies especially adore colorist Nina Ganci, who took the 2013 Best Hair Colorist (Blonde) award from Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston annual review. Ganci is loved for her ability to take neglected blonde locks from brassy to beautiful with a quick color treatment. As a plus, Ganci favors low-maintenance hair color that won’t have you returning for regular root touch-ups.

Awards
In addition to Ganci’s award, the staff at Trephin have earned honors including:

  • Top 100 Salons in the U.S., 2012 and 2013, Elle Magazine
  • “Wicked Cool” mention in American Salon Magazine
  • Best Haircut 2011, Best of Boston (for co-owner Brian Rand)
  • 2012 Boston Pick, Best Hair Color, InStyle

Alternative publications including the Weekly Dig and the Boston Phoenix also gave Trephin positive press.

Location
Trephin is located at 25 Temple Place, right in the heart of DTX and steps away from the Downtown Crossing and Park Street subway stations. This makes is a very convenient place for lunch hour and after-work haircuts and coloring treatments.

Trephin’s combination of professional services and casual charm have earned it accolades on the national level. If you want to judge for yourself, the handy online appointment form makes it easy to sign up for a service. We suggest paying a visit sooner than later…with the attention Trephin is getting, this little neighborhood salon is becoming a big time favorite.
