Sexy Staycation: A Romantic Urban Escape

Craving an urban escape with a special someone? Sure, Paris is a great option, but that takes time and planning. Instead, why not create some special one-on-one time with a quick staycation at a downtown Boston hotel like the Ames. The luxury property is part of Morgans Hotel Group, known for hot spots in NYC (the Hudson) and South Beach (the Delano). Naturally, the Ames at 1 Court Street is similarly sexy, boasting swank guest rooms with fantastic flourishes, like a clear glass wall separating the sleeping area from the shower and a retractable curtain for more private bathroom moments. It’s the perfect place for an urban escape that will have you sleeping soundly—or staying up all night. Here are some other area businesses that’ll help you set the mood.

Need to snatch up a sexy little nighttime number? Stop by downtown’s Macy’s (450 Washington Street) or, for something sexier, Victoria’s Secret (4 S. Market Street in Faneuil Hall). And guys, while you may need to grab lingerie, your other half will probably appreciate you not spoiling the mood by wearing the ratty boxers you’ve had since high school. A quick dig through the drawers at H&M (350 Washington Street) usually turns up something good.

As the saying goes, say it with flowers. Start your day with a Parisian lunch and a glass of rosé wine on the patio at Bistro du Midi (272 Boylston Street), then tiptoe through the tulips of Boston Common on your way to check-in at the Ames. If you have extra time beforehand, swing by Louis Barry Florist (1 International Place) to pick up a bouquet as an in-room surprise. Or just sprinkle rose petals by the bed—gets them every time.

Once you’ve scoped the room situation, do a little shopping downtown and limber up your muscles with a couples massage from Boston Absolute Massage (1 Devonshire Place). Before you head out for the night, make sure to pick up any important overnight supplies you left at home: contact lens solution, a toothbrush, his-and-her adult supplies, etc. They’re all available—plus a selection of wine to take back to the room—at the new 24-hours Walgreens (1603 Washington Street). If you need more, ahem, exotic supplies for your sexy shut-in night, there’s an Amazing Express (57 Stuart Street) nearby, too.

It’s time for dinner. Share it somewhere dim and romantic like Marliave (10 Bosworth Street), a hidden gem where oysters are a specialty (and, incidentally, a reputed aphrodisiac) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily. There’s also Gem (42 Province Street), where chef Kevin Long, the man behind Back Bay’s Red Lantern, delivers sophisticated American cuisine in a lush, almost bordello-like atmosphere. For quiet romance, come a little early. As the night goes on, DJs start spinning and it becomes a bumping, grinding scene that will serve as a good dress rehearsal for the rest of your night.

Oh, and you’re welcome.
