Picture this: it’s a lovely summer evening and you’re on your way out of the office but you simply don’t want to go home yet. Your wander lust tells you that it’s time to enjoy the beautiful weather and you’d simply love to do so with the company of others. The Boston Calling Block Party series is calling your name, my friend, and luckily it returns Thursday May 8th. From this date until September 25th (weather permitting), the block party will be in full swing from 5:00 PM through 8:00 PM, kicking it Beantown style right in the middle of Dewey Square.

The best part is that this series (still open to the 21+ public for absolutely no admission charge), is designed to get you out, about, and enjoying the downtown area. For the last five years, these parties (formerly the Downtown Crossing Block Party series) were held in Downtown Crossing on Summer Street, but this year that all changes. Crash Line Productions, along with Boston’s Mayor Marty Walsh, are excited to welcome these summerly happenings to the new location at Dewey Square, conveniently placed just next to one of the MBTA’s major hubs. This makes the party so easy to access by foot, bus, or rail that there’s simply no reason not to check it out. Crash Line is the organizer of the outdoor music festivals that will kick off and end summer in downtown Boston for the second straight year. The Boston Calling concerts take place on Memorial and Labor Day weekends, and Crash Line has entered into a partnership with the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy and Downtown Business Improvement District to lend the Boston Calling name and their music business connections to the series. That’s a lot of official organizers coming together to make this one heck of a ride.

Enjoy refreshing beverages and crack open a cold brew (Anheuser Busch is the official beer sponsor of the block party) available at kiosks around the venue. Nibble on some tasty offerings from one of the various food trucks that organizers promise will be on hand to satisfy your every culinary whim. Have a seat on the lush grass of the Rose Kennedy Greenway, or wander the Boston Public Market, a farmer’s market just across the way from the block party’s new exciting locale.

The Block Party has established a killer line-up of local bands to keep you jamming all summer. Kicking off with some tempting tunes is The Swinging Johnsons; a hometown club band favorite. Every week, the party’s featured band will vary in genre from indie to reggae and everything in between, with both original and cover bands. Organizers will gradually reveal the line-up via the Boston Calling facebook page.

So what are you waiting for? The weekend doesn’t have to wait until Friday; Thursdays can definitely become your new favorite weekday if you’re spending them at a party!
