‘Tis the season for Boston’s Best Holiday Shopping

Posted December 6, 2012 by Marisa Bunney in Business

Ahhhh, my favorite time of year. Is it the holiday cheer and twinkling lights? That’s part of it. The cheesy Christmas songs and picture perfect snow? Absolutely. But the real reason is that two of my most major addictions come together in brilliant harmony. The first? You guessed it — Christmas. The second? Retail. The bustling beauty of that therapy we call shopping. Le sigh….

One place that always pleases is Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Everything from big names in apparel like Ann Taylor, Victoria’s Secret, and Urban Outfitters, to Boston favorites such as Boston Pewter Company and Best of Boston to specialty shops like Godiva Chocolatier, Magnetic Chef, and Crabtree & Evelyn. All framed by the 6-week light and sound extravaganza, Blink!

But this year, my favorite shopping district in the Hub is Downtown Crossing. It actively indulges all my–let’s call them passions. Department stores and flagships like Macy’s, H&M, and DSW complement specialty stores like Brattle Book Shop and Artists Crossing. And currently, the Downtown Boston Holiday Market on Summer Street features artisan vendors, Santa sightings, and musical performances from 11am-7pm Monday-Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sundays. The Crossing also has a slew of independent jewelers, grocery and convenience stores, and over 200 retailers. BONUS: Downtown Crossing has a fantastic culinary scene for quenching the appetite you worked up shopping all day!
